We're happy to help — read the quick answers below, and if you don't find what you need, drop us a line.

Quick start

  1. Install iSkitch from the Mac App Store (coming soon — join the beta meanwhile).
  2. Open iSkitch. A small arrow icon appears in your menu bar (top-right). The first time, the welcome window will guide you.
  3. Grant Screen Recording permission when macOS asks: System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen Recording ▸ iSkitch ✓. Relaunch iSkitch.
  4. Press ⌥⌘4 anywhere, drag to select a region — the editor opens with all annotation tools.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't iSkitch capture anything?

The most common reason is the Screen Recording permission. After the first launch macOS asks for it; once you grant it, relaunch iSkitch so the permission takes effect.

Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen Recording, find iSkitch in the list and make sure its switch is ON. If it isn't listed yet, just press ⌥⌘4 once — macOS will prompt automatically.

Where are my screenshots saved?

iSkitch never saves silently. You decide where each capture goes when you press Save… (or drag the image out of the window). In iSkitch ▸ Settings ▸ Capture you can set a default folder and default format (PNG/JPG/PDF/TIFF) so the dialog opens already where you want it.

Can I change the capture shortcut?

The default is ⌥⌘4. Customising shortcuts is on the roadmap — it'll arrive in a future update.

How do I share to a specific app?

Click Share in the bottom bar of the editor. macOS opens its native share sheet with every app that supports receiving images (Mail, Messages, Notes, Slack, Reminders, AirDrop…). You can also drag the image directly out of iSkitch into any app.

Does iSkitch send my data anywhere?

No. iSkitch works entirely offline — no accounts, no tracking, no analytics. Captures stay on your Mac unless you explicitly choose to share them. Read more in our Privacy Policy.

Can I run iSkitch only when I need it?

Yes. In Settings ▸ General toggle off "Keep iSkitch in the menu bar (launch at login)". Then open it manually from Spotlight or your Applications folder only when you need to capture.

How do I hide sensitive info in a screenshot?

Use the Pixelate tool — drag over the area to obscure. You can choose between four styles in the toolbar: Pixelate, Blur, Solid block and Stripes. All four are non-reversible visually.

Which Macs is iSkitch compatible with?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Universal Binary — runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M-series) and Intel Macs.
